To be fair, country singer-songwriter Ronnie Dunn readily acknowledges that he has only hazy memories of performing at the inaugural Indio Stagecoach Country Music Festival in 2007.
Dunn, one half of the stagecoach country music duo Brooks & Dunn, remarked in a recent phone interview that “back then,
before we took our hiatus Stagecoach , we were running so hard that everything was a blur.”
On Sunday, April 30, he will return with his longtime musical collaborator Kix Brooks to perform at the three-day festival at the
Empire Polo Club, right before closing headliner Chris Stapleton.
You played the first one, and maybe I shouldn’t tell anyone that I don’t remember it,
but the gigs out West and in California, people told me at my office.
They are so much fun that they always become a blur,” he continued.
“Compared to other places, the crowds there are very different.
The first few times we were in California, I remember talking on the phone to my wife and saying,
My God, I’m not making this up, but I felt like it had been a Rolling Stones concert by the crowd’s response.
She still makes fun of me for this.
In California, it’s party time, and the Stagecoach audiences there are genuine fans.
before we took our hiatus, we were running so hard that everything was a blur.”
In 2010, Brooks & Dunn performed their final concert and returned to Stagecoach.
This time around, said they are ready to have a blast right along with the thousands of ardent country music fans attending the festival from April 28 to 30.
They have a renewed enthusiasm for playing.
The songs of Brooks have undoubtedly been recorded by a number of performers
who have appeared at Stagecoach, along with the music of the late Tom Petty. The duo is always there in spirit, even when they are not on stage.
Dunn claimed that he feels happy knowing that.
We’ll go there and take notes because the culture is fantastic and they know how to party because they’ve been doing it for a while.
The event is made up of all of that energy and excitement.
We always get our energy from the crowd and from out there where the celebration is.
We receive a little bit of that since the party is in the audience and not on stage,
so we appear to be in a high state of mind.
